This Past week or two seems to of been a change in the fishing year with the last of the spring run of Codling moving off and Roker and some early bass showing.
The weekend (9th, 10th) saw us mainly landing some Roker up to 8lb and a few large Whiting and some spring codling in the 3lb Range
Wednesday’s trip for Trevor’s group saw us fishing the first part of the day for the last of the spring codling. We managed 6 all around the 5- 7lb range, the afternoon was Roker time with 6 landed all in the 5- 9lb Range.
A Small Bass of around 2lb was also landed just to show us that the summer species are not that far away.
The fine settled weather we have been having lately saw Easter weekend being a busy time for us. Fishing was excellent with good numbers of Roker showing up landing well over 40 fish on two trips. Most fish are in the 4-7lb range the biggest this weekend went 11lb with another 2 or 3 just over the 10lb mark, With Fresh frozen Herring and Squid being the top bait for these.
We also saw our first proper Bass of the season with a lovely 8lb 4oz specimen caught by Roger Finbo from Sproughton.
Three very different trips to end the month. With the tides dropping away this weekend we were looking for the bigger fish offshore. Saturdays trip was hindered by bad weather and limited us to inshore nether the less we managed 9 Roker to just over 9lb and a few spring codling well done Dave and your group for still fishing hard in bad conditions.
Sundays Individuals trip the weather was still not ideal but we pushed off in the hope of some bigger Cod, Fishing a mark which has normally produced better fish this time of year for us, saw us land codling up to 5lb but no Lunkers unfortunately, but everybody got amongst the fish and the afternoon turned out to be a cracker weather wise.
Monday was our first trip out to the offshore wrecks where we found the cod more than obliging to take our jelly worms and twin tails offered on the drift. Nothing huge but with well over 90 fish landed in just two hours fishing, everyone was happy and glad to get out on the distant wrecks again after the dull winter break.
The signs are there for a good wrecking season with the wrecks holding fish already and from now on the wrecking will improve steadily as the week’s progress.
This weekend on the big tides saw us targeting the spring run of inshore fish which we generally get this time of year. Saturday saw us land well over 40 sizeable codling between 6 anglers with the biggest on the day at just over 5lb.
Codling numbers were down a little on Sunday never the less we still managed over 20 keepers for Jack's Belated Birthday Trip with us.
The previous set of small tides also saw us get amongst the Codling not as many numbers as expected with the small tides but a nice double figure Roker made the best fish of the day
Hopefully the weather will stay settled for us as we wait for these big spring tides to drop off and allow us to get offshore to target some big fish normally found this time of year.
Any time now we will be off to visit the Offshore wrecks looking for the Clear water pushing up and the start of the Cod and Pollock fishing off the deepwater wrecks.
The fishing in the last month or so has been poor so sorry for not keeping the website updated. After our success in the Shotley Marina Cod competition the fishing went down hill as the days went on. The Christmas holiday time saw fishing tailing off with hard days for everyone with very few fish of any note caught, best we managed on a trip was 6 Codling up to 4lb. The Cod that were around seemed to of now moved well offshore to spawn, hopefully we will see them return in force during the coming weeks. The Fishing this winter season seems to have been affected by the extra cold weather we had during December, which seemed to bring the fishing to an almost halt at least 3 weeks early in our opinion as we normally do ok right up to the start of January.
We are now awaiting the return of the Cod. Hopefully the Roker will turn up soon which have provided us in previous years with some good fishing during February.
On a more positive note congratulations to Rick Burton from Felixstowe who was the winner of our Cod competition through December. Rick has won himself a free day wrecking with us during the summer when hopefully these dull winter days of no cod are a distant memory.
Also this month you will see our new Tackle page on the website. Hopefully you will find this of help to you all in knowing how best to prepare for your chosen trip with us. On the tackle page you will see we have teamed up With Mark Harding at Alderney Angling who has an excellent website, where you can get all you require for a days fishing. Thanks also to Mark for donating some prizes for the boat and allowing us to test some of his new lures and shads from his Bayzand range of tackle. If you are booked on one of our Wrecking or Bassing trips during the summer you will get to try these for yourselves.
The Wrecking and Bassing trips seem to be proving very popular. We only now have a few weekend trips free so get in touch if you want a weekend tide during the summer. However we will be running more midweek trips from May onwards so if you would like to join the mailing list for these trips just drop us an email.

2010 Archive
13th December
With the first few trips of December not producing the numbers or quality of fish we have been use to in the past years, we have had to push further off in the hope of finding a few decent fish.
Our last inshore trip was hard work mainly due to the increasing numbers of Sprats which seem to be getting worse day by day but we just about salvaged a trip with 14 Codling landed up to 3lb 8oz.
As the tides dropped away this gave us a chance to fish the offshore marks for the big cod normally found this time of year at these areas.
Fishing was still slow but the fish were of a good size if you hooked into one. Best fish on Saturday 5th December was caught by Ricky from Felixstowe and weighed 12lb 4oz which has put him in the lead for the December Cod competition for a free trip in the summer.
Stevie and I got amongst the fish on Sunday with Stevie’s best Cod weighing 16lb 9oz and I managed a fish of 15lb 9oz. This saw us take 1st and place in the Shotley Marina Cod competition 2010
26th/27th 28th Nov
The end of last week saw us out fishing the bigger tides mainly inshore in search of Codling and whiting.
Friday’s trip saw us land over 35 Codling with the biggest just over 5lb 8oz.
Saturday saw us return to the same area but unfortunately the fishing had tailed off with codling numbers down to 12 but plenty of good sized Whiting were caught with 4 or 5 over the 1lb 8oz mark. Well done to the anglers, it was horrible in the morning with the freezing fog and a chilly wind to contend with.
After Saturdays Trip we tried a different area Sunday, but fishing was hard again with the biggest Cod being 6lb 8oz.
It seemed the Spratt’s had arrived in numbers over the weekend which had made the fishing harder, hopefully the strong wind we are getting mid week combined with the larger tides coming up will break up the Spratt’s and see the fishing pick up again.
Now we are nearly into December it will see us targeting the larger cod from the offshore marks which have fished really well the last 2 or 3 years in the lead up to the New Year. Just to remind you all, if you land the biggest cod of the month aboard the boat this will entitle you to a free offshore wrecking trip next season with us.Early to Mid November
The Last few trips has seen some good fishing For She Likes It Rough II off the Suffolk coast line. Last week on the smaller tides saw us landing more Roker again. The largest Roker was just over 12lb landed by Andy Nicholson
with the rest of them ranging from 5- 10lb, which are a good size for winter Roker. We seem to be seeing more and more of these now every winter season. These smaller tides also saw us land a few Cod with the first double figure Cod caught this winter aboard the boat landed by Dan Murphy at 10lb 4oz.
The rest of the fish were 5- 8lb range.
This week on the bigger tides saw us out on trips again. This time trying to target more Cod. We were hoping the bigger tides would help for the Cod but unfortunately they seem reluctant to turn up in any numbers. When you are lucky enough to hook into one they are good sized fish mainly between 5- 8lb, with the biggest this weekend for us being 12lb 6oz caught by David Woolner.
With the tides being that much bigger, the Roker Fishing was never going to be as good as the previous week, but we managed 7 up to 9lb on one trip. Also on all the trips we have been finding good sized Whiting up to 1lb 8oz.
The last few of our trips has seen us once again target mainly Roker and early cod and whiting. Over the past three trips we have landed over 40 Roker with the fish ranging from 3 - 8lb. Picked up a few codling with a couple of the fish around the 7lb mark. The Whiting have arrived in force, which is good to see. Smoothound have also put in a late showing this year with us landing 6 on one trip all up to 8lb. Thought we had lost the number of spotty dogs but last trip they were hoovering up any bait you put out.
We are now booking trips leading up to the festive season and individual midweek trips over the Xmas break also. This is traditionally the time of year we see the biggest cod of the year caught off the ground so get in touch if would like a crack at that big 20lber. Big baits are the name of the game double squid and black lug has accounted for some of the bigger fish over the last couple of years.
The last couple of months has been a real busy period for ‘ She likes It Rough Charters’ so sorry for not updating the website.
We have been in the process of changing boats and now we are pleased to announce that ‘ She Likes It Rough 2’ is fully up and running and we are now out fishing again
After much thought and deliberation we decided to go for the bigger boat option but still want to give anglers that sportfishing ethos that we are aiming at. You can see pictures of the new boat in the Gallery and more details in about the boat sectionAs far as the fishing goes ‘ She Likes It Rough’ was sold mid July and has not gone far away, just up the coast to Lowestoft, where I hope new owner Karl has many happy trips with her.
Fishing was good when we could get out with good catches of bass taken on the banks. The wrecks generally were still hard work. It’s been such a funny year! But good numbers of cod and a supriseingly good number of fair sized ling. have been caught. Again mainly on our uncharted wrecks, these have saved our days on more than one occasion I have to admit! It’s probably been the best year for quantity of Ling we have seen for many years so that was good. There also seemed to be a late run of Pollock for the people who put the effort in and were rewarded with fish to just under 10lbs.
So all in all not a bad Summers fishing.
First Trip out fishing on the new boat saw us land over 17 Roker to just under double figures with a lonely Smoothie putting in an appearance and unfortunately loads and loads of spotty dogs.
Hopefully the Whiting and Codling are not to far away. If this winter is half as good as last year we will be in for a good one.
The autumn and winter fishing is nearly here so if you are interested in booking a ground fishing trip get in touch. As usual individuals and small groups are always welcome.
We are setting aside the first Saturday and last Sunday of every month purely for individuals so get in touch if you fancy a trip.
FRI 4TH/SAT 5TH JUNE
Friday saw an individuals trip out to the wrecks. Over 40 cod were landed with the biggest falling to Robin Turpin with a fish of 13lb 8oz. The fish are still of real good quality but unfortunately are not on all the wrecks out there. Again the uncharted wrecks produced all the fish but a nice surprise today was a bass of 7lb 6oz for Ian. Which is unusual, as we don’t see bass on the wrecks till a bit later in the month.
Saturday’s trip again was out to the distant wrecks. Much the same as Friday really for the party of five, best fish was a tad smaller than yesterday at 13lb landed by Tony Gossage but the quality was superb again with 10-15 low doubles again. A small Ling of 6lb was also caught today. Pollock seemed to have disappeared for a bit we only landed a couple over the weekend but normally put in an appearance again a bit later in the year.
SUNDAY 13TH JUNE
Today was a trip to the offshore banks to fish for the bass. Four individuals made up the trip. First up we had to catch some launce our chosen bait for the day. Using small Sabikis and shrimp rigs we soon had enough for the trip. Using the launce as livebait we set about catching some bass. Just on the one tide we fished they landed over 30 bass between them ranging between 2.5lbs up to 9.5lbs couldn’t hit the magic double figure today but some good size bass were caught with the majority in the 4-7lb range. On the way in the lads wanted to try for some cod. I didn’t hold out much hope, as we have not been catching much off these inshore wrecks this year yet. But I hadn’t fished this one yet so we gave it a go. The little trawler came up trumps. After only 30 minutes they all had 5 cod each ranging between 3-8lb so a nice end to a good days fishing.
Our first wrecking trip for a while mainly due to the baccy weed and excellent ground fishing recently. Today saw five of us push out in search of Cod and Pollock. Some of the wrecks are still not producing but a favourite uncharted wreck did us proud again. Water has improved dramatically with water visibility well over 10m and no sign of the baccy weed. Fishing was outstanding with fish of real good quality coming aboard. The biggest cod of the day fell to David Woolnough with a fine fish of 18lb. Closely followed with a cod of 16lb 8oz for Chris Woods. I got among the fish and landed a cod of 14lb 8oz. Nearly twenty double figure cod were caught today out of a haul of over 80 fish. The rest of the catch was made up of a lot of cod 8lb plus. We did get among the Pollock with fish up to 9lb being caught.
The quantity and quality of the fish we had today I have not seen personally for six years!
We were also graced with the presence of dolphins swimming round the boat and running with our wake (video to be added shortly) to round off a
fantastic days Wrecking which was had by all.

SAT 24TH APRIL
Due to Thurs wrecking trip not being as productive as we had hoped, we decided to bottom fish again today. It proved to be the right choice with an excellent day had by all. In total we landed nearly 40 cod to 12lb 8oz with another five low doubles thrown in. The size of the fish today was superb with the rest of the fish all being in 6-9lb range. Lets hope this fishing and weather stays with us for another week or two!
Our offshore bassing trips will be starting soon once the baccy weed has cleared. Still plenty of mid week trips available so get in contact if you fancy a trip.
THURS 22nd APRIL
Another Offshore wrecking trip unfortunately not as good as couple of weeks ago. We have been hit with a bad case of May weed or ‘ Baccy weed:’ as it is known this colours the water up and makes fishing a lot harder as the fish do not seem to be able to you see the lures. Never the less after much hard work and travelling we managed to find clearer water and a wreck which held some fish we landed over 30 cod no big uns but not a bad day all in all.
Big tides this weekend it’s to early for Bassing so it saw us ground fishing for Roker and cod. A good couple of days fishing really, Sat we ended up with 13 Roker to 11lb 8oz and 10 cod all within the 4- 8lb bracket. Sunday brought us much the same with 17 Roker to 9lb and 6 Cod, again fish of the 4-8lb stamp.
Tuesday 23rd March 2010
Our first wrecking trip of 2010 - started off well, good cod had by all. water clarity was good,
things will only get better as the season progresses.
Best fish - 11lb cod- by Chris Woods.
